With Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur behind us, we now enjoy Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles or Feast of Booths. Of all the feast days, Sukkot is, perhaps, one of the most community-engaged and hospitality-minded. A new year has begun and we want to start it out on the right foot, in peace with our friends and neighbors and in generosity to those in need around us. Sukkot is similar to Passover/Pesach in that we set our tables with a feast of food for friends, family, and the needy, but there’s something special about building our sukkahs, these temporary dwellings, and opening them up in hospitality to any ushpizen (guests) who would join us. Perhaps, like Abraham, we have entertained angels – but without knowing it! This Sukkot, we in Israel wish you a happy week, however you may spend it. We encourage you to contemplate what you’re thankful for and why. It is easy to forget the goodness is our lives. May this special holiday be a reminder of how rich we truly are.
Like Thanksgiving in America, not all families in Israel can celebrate Sukkot with abundance and celebration. What is supposed to be a time of relaxation and joy, a time of eating and fellowshipping, can often be a time of stress, of want, and a reminder that all is not well. As you consider your blessing, we also request that you would consider hospitality to the needful in Israel. Your donations can help bridge that gap and bring food and fun to those who wouldn’t have it otherwise. During a time of such personal, national, and spiritual significance, your donations and kindness go a long way!You can make donations by clicking on the donate button.

In June of 2007 I attended a conference in Vancouver, Washington where I met Yisroel Stefansky. As one of the guest speakers I listened to him tell a story about how as a child he was suddenly thrust into the nightmare of a bus bombing in Israel.

As you know from our September newsletter, the ISF was approached by a unit in the IDF about the purchase of vests for some of their top soldiers (see picture). Because of your generous donations we were able to buy vests for the unit. These vests will help the soldiers better do their job – something that could be the difference between life and death in the days ahead. We thank you and the soldiers thank you for your generous donations.

Welcome to the Front Lines
"This is what the Sovereign LORD says: The people of Israel will again live in their own land, the land I gave my servant Jacob. For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people. They will live safely in Israel and build their homes and plant their vineyards. And when I punish the neighboring nations that treated them with contempt, they will know that I am the LORD their God." "And the day will come when I will cause the ancient glory of Israel to revive, and then at last your words will be respected. Then they will know that I am the LORD." Ezekiel 28:25-26; 29:21
