Hanukkah (or Chanukah), the Feast of Dedication – referring to the retaking and rededication of the Temple from Antiochus IV Epiphanes and the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century – is also referred to as the Festival of Lights. In Israel – especially in Jerusalem! – Jewish homes will dot the countryside with illumination. In a window of each house, you will see a lit hanukiah, counting up the days. Suddenly, the long, dark days of winter are made light. It is a beautiful and wondrous sight to see.
In this season, it is important to remember that our God is light. He is life. He lifts those who are weary and downtrodden and makes them light. The lightness that he gives is not only a removed weight, but a gift of luminescence. When we are walking with Him, the light emitting from our lives makes Him more evident in a dark world. During this time of darkness, both in season and in events, be comforted and know – He is light! In the darkness, light shines ever brighter.
Israel Support Fund is raising funds to bring light to families in hard times this Hanukkah season. The consequences of conflict and loss are many and deeply felt. Some families will be without their father or mother or sister or brother for the first time. Others, suffering financial hardship will wonder where to stay warm or how to feed their families. Israel Support Fund has our ear to the ground and we will go to these people to make sure they are comforted, fed, and warmed. With your help, we will keep the lights of Hanukkah burning in these families’ lives.

As you know from our September newsletter, the ISF was approached by a unit in the IDF about the purchase of vests for some of their top soldiers (see picture). Because of your generous donations we were able to buy vests for the unit. These vests will help the soldiers better do their job – something that could be the difference between life and death in the days ahead. We thank you and the soldiers thank you for your generous donations.

Welcome to the Front Lines
"This is what the Sovereign LORD says: The people of Israel will again live in their own land, the land I gave my servant Jacob. For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people. They will live safely in Israel and build their homes and plant their vineyards. And when I punish the neighboring nations that treated them with contempt, they will know that I am the LORD their God." "And the day will come when I will cause the ancient glory of Israel to revive, and then at last your words will be respected. Then they will know that I am the LORD." Ezekiel 28:25-26; 29:21
