ISF Origins
Israel Support Fund began with a dedication to the courageous causes of Israel. Our founder, Yisroel Stefansky, was one of the original founders of Zaka (www.zaka.org.il). The son of Americans who immigrated toThe Land, he has volunteered for Israeli organizations since his youth. In fact, he was 15 years old when he helped found Zaka. Fluent in English, he was chosen to be the spokesman for Zaka in the United States. Since then, he has attended over 50 terror sites and death scenes; including, the first in a foreign country – Toronto – after the murder of a rabbi and in Houston, Texas on invitation of NASA after the breakup of the space shuttle, Columbia. Today, he is a tireless worker on behalf of Jewish causes and is frequently asked to speak in the United States and Canada. His work is followed by Jews and non-Jews alike.
Yisroel Stefansky witnessed through his work that funding was not reaching the people and organizations who needed it most – the truly heroic volunteers and causes. Together with Zaka Canada President and Canadian journalist Marshall Shapiro, who is widely known for his help to worthy organizations, they purposed to create a foundation that would serve the champions of Zion. This aid organization would not be based on ideologies or theologies, glory or political correctness. It would defend the causes and heroes on the frontlines. It would support the Jewish people and their homeland, in defense against the forces that seek to destroy not only the Jews, but all of humanity. History has shown that what happens to the Jews very quickly happens to others – no one is exempt. Yes, this organization would stand to support vital needs and to raise the standard of Tzadakah and Tikkun Olam in Israel.
Our donors are dedicated people who understand the motives of the defenders of Zion. They are people of faith and commitment who answer to the Ultimate Authority. Because of this, ISF, in a short time, has helped many people. Even before the organization was chartered, it was being appealed to for those in need. Nobody was turned down.
